Behind the Design of the NAD M33 BluOS Streaming DAC Amplifier

To celebrate the release of the NAD M33, we spoke with NAD’s top engineers to discuss the all-new Master Series BluOS Streaming DAC Amplifier.

Although high-end audio has become more complex and expensive with each passing year, modern digital technology has revealed a solution to making sophisticated technology both accessible and affordable. It is at this crossroad that the NAD M33 has emerged. With over 200W per channel of distortion-free amplification, the NAD M33 streaming amplifier effortlessly exploits the performance of today’s most sophisticated speaker systems. Offering access to virtually any music source available, and featuring the likes of Dirac’s room correction software, all one needs to do is simply connect the M33 to their favourite pair of speakers and experience a true, state-of-the-art musical performance.

Below, we take a closer look at the NAD M33 and some of its core features.

Connect to Every Music Source with BluOS

At the heart of the M33 is BluOS, a completely custom operating system designed and engineered to bring you a rich, immersive streaming experience. Unique in its tight integration of hardware and software, BluOS delivers a true high-end listening experience whether your music is stored locally or streamed from the service of your choice. BluOS also allows the M33 to become part of an ecosystem of other BluOS products, which can be used together on the same network to create a multi-room music experience. With a plethora of music services integrated and supported by BluOS, the M33 brings you closer to the music you love while letting you discover new tracks along the way.

Purifi Eigentakt Technology

Taking a fresh look at every aspect of an amplifier’s performance, Danish tech company, Purifi, developed their Eigentakt™ technology to correct non-linearities in order to accurately produce less noise and lower distortion. The end result is an outstanding performance of rich detail and transparency. By employing Eigentakt, the NAD M33 becomes completely relaxed and natural sounding, allowing listeners to hear music like never before.

Dirac Live Room Correction

Taking a sophisticated approach to “room correction,” Dirac’s innovative software manages the acoustic energy in a room by comparing the sound at the listening position with the original signal. Rather than “equalizing” the signal like a traditional tone control, Dirac time aligns the energy so that the arrival of sound is properly organized. The result is a cleaner performance with astounding impact and imaging. Included with the M33 is a precision microphone that measures the effects of room resonances at and around the listening position.

Modular Design Construction

Rapid advancements in technology can make even the finest components obsolete. That’s why NAD introduced Modular Design Construction in the late 2000s and has continued to develop the platform with new and emerging technologies. What may appear to be simple changes in connector shape and size are actually portals to sophisticated software requiring new and more powerful processors. MDC, with its internal backplane bus architecture, can easily accommodate these requirements, ensuring the M33 never falters or falls behind the times.

Beautiful Design & Quality

The simple understated appearance of the M33 beautifully expresses the precision engineering within. Its solid aluminum construction is non-magnetic and easily dissipates the small amount of heat generated within. Furthermore, machined iso-point feet support the M33 and isolate it from external vibration.
